Concept: In this project the balloon is used as a metaphor for our tools of emotional self-control. It visualizes the point at which self-control is lost, overcome by the internal pressures of mundane crises, and thus conveys the otherwise invisible border between social and emotional behavior.
In the project, the balloon has been used as a metaphor for tools of emotional self-control. The limits of social behavior or rules of acceptance require us to be accepted by others. This often causes us to hide own emotions from society. In this sense, “bursting point” also refers to the invisible border between social and emotional behavior.
The project exposes the struggles of daily life and its duties through consciousness of oneself. I see this as a primarily relationship between our psychic being and the world. Emotions (anger, joy, frustration, desire) and reactions arise from this relationship. Emotions are intentional and strategic ways of coping with difficult situations. “ We choose to utilize them, we control them, and not the other way around, as has been posited elsewhere. Just as an emotion is a transformation of the world”, the balloon’s function is to adapt and defeat the world.* This can be associated with the symbolic function of the balloon, in the transcendence of mundane crises. For me, besides being rich in associations, the balloon is a sphere, a world, a voice, expressing itself from within as a resistance to the psychical burden.
The project will be exhibited alongside the Video piece. The video-project is emphasizing on the Sound of Blowing. Sound plays an important role in the project, emphasizing the movement and spatiotemporal experience. For me, the sound of exhaling evokes of reminding the breathing associations with the essence of life, of daily routine, . This will build a link to the viewer’s internal world and foreground the tension of the title.
